EPCOM Field Day Exersize

The following is a Q and A with Tamara Fader.

Q. What is your involvement with this year's Field Day Exercise?
A. My name is Tamara Fader and I am a member of the EPCOM (Emergency Preparedness Communications) group.  I am also this year's Incident Commander for our Field Day exercise.

Q. Assuming our readers know nothing about the "field day", how would you describe it?
A. Field Day is a contest put on by the Amateur Radio Relay League in which anyone in the world can participate.  Our goal is to obtain as many contacts as possible using amateur (ham) radio, and in doing so we are given the opportunity to practice our emergency communications skills.  Over the course of the weekend we set up the City’s emergency equipment similar to what we would if disaster were to strike and further our skills as amateur radio operators in the process.
This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who is interested in getting their license, or already have obtained it, to come and practice their radio skills.

Q. Where is this event being held and when?
A. This year’s Field Day is being held from Friday June 26th to Sunday June 28th at Castle Park in Port Coquitlam.  The contest runs from 11:00 am on Saturday to 11:00 am on Sunday.

Q. Is it open to public?

A. Yes, the public is welcome to come check it out.  And we can help anyone interested in spending some time on the radio to make a contact.

Thank you Tamara.
